Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions from
DJs about our site and how to join in.
Q: How do I get my bio and picture on the
Sister site?
A: Email your bio to
us in plain text format, along with a good-sized jpg, gif or tif
of yourself. We will do the rest!
Q: How do I submit a top tem or chart to the site?
A: Go to our Chart Submission Form
page and enter your selections - easy as that!
Q: I'd like to write a record review: what's the process?
A: Email your record review to
us in plain text format, along with your name and affiliations.
We will review submissions and post them when that new section
is on the site. Please note that not all submissions will be posted
as we have limited resources.
Q: I want to play at a Sister event! What should I do?
A: Contact us by email stating
they style of music you play, if you live in the Bay area and
if not, when you will be in the Bay area. We will try to accomodate
you with a gig, but it's not always possible.
Q: I want to learn more about DJing. How can I do this?
A: Visit our forums!
They're open for comments and questions 24 hours a day.
We do recommend that DJs just starting out find a mentor - an
experienced DJ friend who can show them the ropes. You may also
think about attending a DJ workshop at http://www.norcaldjmpa.com
or http://www.horizonsdjproject.com/
if you live in San Francisco, or take lessons at http://www.djtwinspin.com/DJ%20Academy.htm
if you're in the San Jose area.
If you live in the Bay Area you may also like to get some qualified
one-on-one help from an instructor, such as our very own DJ Amber
- email her for more details.
Her article "Getting Started as a DJ" can be read here.
We also have a new email list for DJs and MCs called Sister
DJ News that is published monthly. It's free to join and you'll
get lots of news and info about DJing, what's happening on our
site and opportunities to win gear and passes to our events.
Q: I want to join the Sister crew as a resident, intern or flier
crew! How?
A: Currently we have our full quota of resident DJs and interns,
but we are looking for dedicated flier staff who will promote
our events in exchange for free entry for themselves and their
friends. Send us an email if you're
interested: we'll see what we can do to help each other!
Q: I want to form my own Sister crew in another city - what do
I need to do?
A: Send us an email detailing
your experience DJing, promoting and organizing events in your
city. Write an outline plan of how you'd proceed with the Sister
mission of promoting female DJs in your area. We'll carefully
consider your ideas!
